2013 District Pinewood Derby

The District Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday, February 09, 2013 at Annapolis Westfield Mall (West Atrium near Stoney River, Adidas, and Crate&Barrel). Registration is 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM and derby racing starts at 12:00 PM. First, second, and third place trophies will be given out by rank (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I, and Webelos II) and to the top three winners of the District by competing in the final race. Winners will be determined by fastest time of the six runs per car. Additional awards/certificates will be given out for creativity of the cars that the Scouts built.

Some facts about the 2012 District Pinewood Derby

This was the Capitol District pinewood derby event. The district has 20 cub scout packs mostly in the Anne Arundel County area. See the website for more details about The Capitol District - http://thecapitoldistrict.org/about-us/about-us
We had 61 scouts enter cars. Many of them placed highly in their pack pinewood derby events in the weeks prior to the district derby.
The top 3 for each rank moved onto the finals where 15 cars raced once down each lane (6 lanes) and each car would be ranked by the average of their top 5 times.
This was pack 115's first year hosting the event for the Capitol district and it went pretty smoothly thanks to a bunch of volunteers from our pack, the district and lcoal boy scouts.
There was a good derby vibe going with race car styled music playing in the background during registration. The music ranged from Bruce Springstein, Born in the USA to Rascal Flatts, Life is a Highway to Wilson Pickett, Mustang Sally.
The scouts cars were also judged on Funniest, Best Workmanship and Most Creative per rank and awarded certificates shortly after their heats had completed.
Our turnaround time per heat was just over 1 minute. Great job!

Wolf: 1st - Gavin Siekiewich, 2nd - Jackson Sjoberg, 3rd - Matthew Wichmann
Bear: 1st - Andrew Dolbeck, 2nd - Carter Platts, 3rd - Mitchel Macey
Webelos 1: 1st - Ryan Yost, 2nd - Carrett Foster, 3rd - Colin Burke
Webelos 2: 1st - Christian Doraisingh, 2nd - Jack Corchran, 3rd - Eric Hostetler

Grand Finals: 1st - Nathan, 2nd - Justin Taschenberg, 3rd - Scott Stoneburner
