They are proud to give back to the Boy Scout of America. They offer tours to Scout Units every weekend of the academic year. Units can contact Midn Sonnenberg at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to schedule. (I have gone back to him to clarify whether Packs are also invited or if this is age restricted).

4. Pinewood Derby February 4 (Revised handout—please review)
District Pinewood Derby is Scheduled to take place February 4, 2012 with a snow date of February 18, 2012
5. Scout Sunday - A Scout is Reverent (Sunday, February 5th)
The 12th point of the Scout Law says that a "Scout is Reverent" and Scouts of all ages promise to do their "Duty to God". These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith. The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in church aware of Scouting, give appreciation to our chartered organizations, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what is pledged each week.
The Boy Scouts of America celebrate annually in the month of February the Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scout program by Lord Baden Powell in England. Scout Sunday was added to the scout celebration around the middle 1940s. Scouting's anniversary is celebrated on February 8. Scout Sunday is always the Sunday preceding the 8th, unless the 8th is a Sunday, in which case the 8th would be Scout Sunday. The Saturday following February 8th is Scout Sabbath.
To celebrate and honor the tradition, please encourage your Scouts to wear their Class A uniform to a religious service on these dates as a unit or individual in respect to different faiths and traditions.
Official dates for 2012:
(Note: An organization can adopt a specific Sunday to celebrate. In the instance of the United Methodist Church, Scout Sunday is celebrated on the second Sunday in February. It also is permissible for a local church to celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation.)
Scout Sunday - Sunday, February 5th
Scout Mass - Saturday, February 4th (I could not find an 'official' date. Some churches have it listed as the 4th, some the 5th, and many others have an alternate date prepared.)
Scout Sabbath - Saturday, February 11th
Here are some ideas for Scout Sunday:
-If your unit is chartered by a church or religious organization this is a wonderful way to express appreciation and show them how they are supporting the youth community through Scouting. Try to make plans to attend together as a unit.
-If any of your Scouts/Scouters have recently earned a religious award, this is is the perfect time to make a presentation our recognize them for those accomplishments. It also encourages other scouts to work on awards in the "Duty to God" programs.
-Scouting.org has several suggested formats for Scout Sunday: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Media/Relationships/ascoutisrevernt.aspx
If you have any questions or need suggestions for Scout Sunday observance, please contact the District Chaplain, Tim Mullady at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 410-353-6594. I will try to have information available at Roundtable in January as well.
6. Cold Weather Camping seminar: Any interest? ...and Valley Forge Encampment Feb 17-19
Are any units interested in a seminar on Cold Weather Camping in January? If so please contact Tim Mullady at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ASAP. If we have the interest from 5-6 more units and can set a date (Sat 21 or 28th) a group from the Cradle of Liberty council is willing to come and give a seminar. This is a mandatory requirement to register for the Encampment.
The annual Encampment and Pilgrimage to Valley Forge is the oldest consecutive event in Scouting history....and this is it's 100th anniversary. If your unit has not been before I highly recommend it. Scouts come from all over and it's like a mini-Jamboree!
Check out the website here for more information: http://www.colbsa.org/pilgrimage-and-encampment/pilgrimage-encampment.html

10. Scouting for Food
The Council’s program is (www.baltimorebsa.org/sff):
April 14-15 (bag distribution)
April 21 (bag collection)
This is a date change to what had previously been announced. Feedback from many pantries and food banks told the council was more in need in the spring-time and leading into the summer and that many other food drives were leaving them well-stocked throughout the winter months. Please visit website for more details.
11. Life to Eagle Changes will be discussed at the March Roundtable
Nationally revised Life to Eagle workbooks and procedures are now in effect for all Eagle Project proposals commencing 1 Jan 2012. There will be a lot of confusion and unanswered questions I am sure about its implementation. Those SMs and Advancement committeemen who have experienced the first of these Workbook submittals, and any other Troop leader who will either advise or assist Eagle Candidates, are invited and encouraged to attend the March Roundtable to share and apprise others of their understanding and experiences with the process thus far. This is not a training session, nor instructional lecture, but a true Round Table to exchange information and concerns of the day, relevant to the Life to Eagle process.
Those administrators (Troop ACs, Eagle Advisors, Troop Assigned Mentors, et al) who have in the past, guided Eagle Candidates, hopefully, will have read the L-E text and forms currently available on the BSA/BAC Web sites. Bring your questions and concerns, along with your advice and experience to this Round Table. Share with other brother scouters so that we will not have to reinvent the wheel each time a Life Scout prepares for the Eagle experience.
If you have not read the two documents which define the Life to Eagle policy and procedures please review the following links prior to the discussion.
Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, No. 512-927, http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-927_fillable.pdf
Section 9 of the 2011 Guide to Advancement http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/33088.pdf
Some New Features:
This new process will require the establishment of a cadre of “Eagle Scout Service Project Coaches” (ESSPC) who will coach candidates through the project process.
District representatives, and Unit members, if they desire, will receive training and be certified as ESSPCs. Eagle Candidates will be STRONGLY encouraged to solicit the assistance of a Coach. However, he will not be require to engage one, if he so desires.
Beneficiaries will be called upon to play a greater role in the process also.
If certain circumstances prevail, an Eagle Candidate MAY be permitted to work on, and complete, his project after reaching his 18th birthday.

Park on any level of the Hourly Parking Garage, as close to section G or H as possible. Take the elevator to level 3, walk down the ramp, across into the terminal and go left to the arrival area. To our volunteers, be sure to bring your parking ticket with you and present it to the Team Leader who is collecting them as soon as you arrive. The last call for parking tickets will be during our announcements.
Use the schedule above to mark your calendar now, for up coming events. If you are coming as a group, please be sure to email the Team Leaders in charge of that particular event.
Operation Welcome Home (MD) thanks you for your donations. We are an all-volunteer organization and, without your generous donations, we would not be able to provide each returning service member with a 'goody bag'.
These bags consist of a 16 oz bottle of water, snacks such as: single serving chips, cookies, granola bars, cheese & crackers, and bite size candy. We also include a hand-made "Thank You" card, and one from Operation Welcome Home.
Volunteers will also be putting up posters and banners before the events.
Since we're greeting 5,000 to 7,000 troops each month, OWHMD always needs hand-made cards, 16 oz bottles of water and snacks, such as: small wrapped pieces of candy and single serving size chips, cookies, granola bars, cheese & crackers, etc. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
For 2011 there were 242 flights and 58974 Passengers
